NAS drive

Does anyone have any experience running a NAS in home network?

I am a total noob to this but need a storage solution for photography and video editing, and to run it as a plex server.

Was looking at Synology DS918+ –– seems overkill but i need to future-proof as the household grows and this looks hella user friendly. :D

A lot of people on reddit forums etc advise making your own but really i don't have time nor patience to get into this – shit looks technical.

i only heard good things about the Synology boxes. especially if you like to do more that only store data.
so runnnig VMs or Services is also possible and easy to install with the grafix interface.
of course its cheaper to build a SAN box with only the parts you need but on the other hand this saves you the troubles of a custom box
