IIRC, Moody's just lowered their ratings for a couple of UK banks, among these being RBS and Santander. Not that you should give too much on ratings at all (Lehman brothers had a good rating just before they defaulted) .... And after all, there is the deposit insurance .... ^^

The point is you should really make a proper comparison between your current banking needs, your realistic future banking needs and the prices that both charge you before you decide on this stuff.
I had a lady tell me that their 100 euro joining bonus was simply unbeatable by the competition.
Nevermind the fact that if I had taken my loan with them I would have paid nearly 4500 euros more over the lifetime of it.
Devil is in the detail buddy.

Santander don't have the best customer service and they do stuff like bank transfers really really really slowly.

I've heard a lot of good things about HSBC, have you looked at them?

I've been with Cahoot for a number of years - they are now owned by Santander and I've not noticed any worsening of service. Their money transfer is still the 3 days though. Hopefully they are upgrading to the newer, faster service soon.

I'm sure the main factor in choosing a bank is looking at whether you'll tend to be in credit or with an overdraft - it's the cost of going overdrawn (or debt in general) where the significant money kicks in. If you're in credit there's not much to differentiate them.

Lately ii been slipping in and out of my £200 overdraft just started getting payed monthly so not sorted out my budgeting yet
See how Ur going on about money transfers dose that three
Day wait for out of bank transfers or from one account to another
Ie main account to joint account the way I do it now I transfer most of my money strait to the joint account where all our bills are would be a pain if that took 3 days

That's the one. At least three days for a credit transfer.
Nice article here - claims that they have a one off phone transfer and standing order same day transfer though.

Stay clear of Santander - good entry offers but awful customer service
Was in Vegas recently with a mate, and they blocked his card (fair enough), but even though he passed their security checks on the phone they wouldn't unblock it for him. He had to go to one of their branches with his passport! So lucky me had to foot most of the bill there!
