Okay, so Im in uni now, and everything I do on the internet has to be set up to run through their proxy server, and I want to communicate with home (parents etc, itll be much cheaper if I do it online) so MSN is the handiest for me here tbh, but I cant figure out how to get it running through this damn proxy. Also, getting steam running where I shouldnt be running it would be a nice plus too :)

I'm using Pidgin but in the old days I used MSN messenger, there was a way how to set PROXY in preferences/connection etc.

presuming the latest live messenger:

1) goto the main screen
2) press left ALT
3) Goto Tools
4) Goto Options
5) Goto Connections tab (at the bottom on the left)
6) Goto Advanced Settings
7) Eat pot noodle and muffin to finish

:)

Word of the wise with regards to web base IM services - some of my contacts used them (no idea whether it was ebuddy) and they found their accounts hacked/abused after that. Could have been a simple virus acting as them but would not be surprised if it was because of the web IM stuff.

Might be worth mentioning but MSN messenger can be accessed from you Live account (you have one if you have a windows messenger or hotmail account) just login at http://login.live.com/ and before people panic, yes it is run by Microsoft ;)

We block so much traffic at at our Uni to stop you pesky students having fun and not working
