does anyone know when the third instalment of halflife 2 is coming out. i have played and completed episode 2 again recently, and really want to know whats going to happen next.

can someone give me an idea- i cant find any references to it

Aside from continuing the Team Fortress 2 updates - I can't see anything else Valve would be doing (ie L4D) which would be pre-occupying the team away from HL2 Ep3.
I wouldn't expect it soon though mind, an optimistic guess would be 2010 Q1.

yeah. i saw a few things estimating 2008-2009, so was kind of hoping it would be soon, but then i saw something for 2010. i know you guys have your ear to the ground bit better than i do, so thought it best to ask.

i saw a post, this guy was on steam, and he saw a friend pop up saying they were playing a non-steam game, Halflife 2: episode 3. how is this possible?

well i think the news so far is

I'm pretty sure that the delay would have something to do with the fact that they're going to be hugely updating the graphics for Ep3 or just scrapping the whole episodic thing and going to jump straight into Half Life 3. Half life 2 was pretty much the best looking game of 2004, beating off Doom 3, and with Ep2 already showing its age - i dont think Valve would want to compromise losing out to other titles.

Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be a great game
