Hey guys,
I did some research on my PC and i dont think i can run BFBC3 properly like it should.
Can the techie ones of you guys help me out here.
Been talking to some friends and they recommend me to replace my dualcore for a quadcore and replace my GFX for a stronger one and after updating my vista 32bit for a 64bit and installing directx11 i would do fine in running BFBC3.
Sooooo 1st things 1st and i wanna replace my Processor and my GFX.
Here are my specs:
-Processor: Intel Core i3-550 (3,2Ghz)
-GFX: Radeon HD5670 (512MB gddr5)
-Memory: 4GB Memory (elixir M2F2G64CB88B7N-CG 1038TW
2GB.1Rx8.PC3-10600U-9-10-B0.13333

-Powersupply: FSP Group INC. modeln° FSP350-60EMDN Fotron source 350W
-Fan: AVC 1-1 DA series-single impeller Fan
-Motherboard: MS-7708B1009014541
Manufacturer: MEDIONPC

Chipset Vendor: Intel
Chipset Model: DMI Host Bridge
Chipset Revision: 11
Southbridge Vendor: Intel
Southbridge Model: P55
Southbridge Revision: 06

i allready opened my PC and replacing the parts is easier then changing my tyre of my car but i dont know what suits my motherboard. Its a shitmotherboard but if its possible i want to keep it to reduce costs...
Thanks in advance guys.

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3
I think the best thing first is to tell us how much you wanna spend on it
Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3
for a cost-effective upgrade keeping that motherboard, you could more than double the performance of the GPU with a 6850 or 6870 and that would have the biggest impact on BF3 framerate for under 200 euro.
RAM is super cheap at the moment so you could upgrade to 8GB but this is only worth doing if you install 64-bit windows.
You should check to see if the mboard can be overclocked but I very much doubt it.
I don't think much more would benefit BF3 - after that it's a new PC I think.

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3
if i replace the powersupply by +/-500watts and put in a gtx card and a descend gpu..... isnt this possible on this motherboard? price could be 400euros if nescessarie

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3
This site will show if your machine can run BF3
You have to let it run a java applet on your machine.

hm,weird, it says i can run it?
Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3
Will be running the on my laptop as soon as I get home
Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3
crappy I'm sure you can run BF3 if you make the screen resolution small enough - question is whether you want to play it at 1024x768 ? You could upgrade the graphics and make a big difference and you make a reasonable point of whether the faster graphics will need a new power supply. I'm guessing you *could* squeeze in double the graphics performance with the existing PSU (you'd need to work out how to get the PCI-e power connection to the card from that PSU though). When you say GTX that just means nvidia and you still have a range of cards to choose from. I haven't checked but from memory the ATI cards draw less power.

Likely I will be going down this route:
ASUS Radeon EAH6970/2DI2S/2GD5 -2GB-PCI-E (curreltly 5850)
extra Corsair Dominator 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz (currently 6gb)
and a ssd for winders 7

Crappy
looking at the BF3 specifications and your current PC building , I concur with Bams.
new GPU (best you can afford)
windows 7 x64
check your PSU wattage and compare against your selected GPU power recommendations
should give you a good mid-range machine

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3
schlack any reason you chose not to xfire another 5850 ? I'm wondering about a second 5870.

5870 vs 5870 CF

maybe a second 5870 is the way to go?

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3
Agree with BamBam. A new GPU will make SO much difference as you already have a nice amount of RAM and a decent CPU. However I don't think you'd be able to put a much more powerful GPU in without buying a new PSU. Good thing about this though is if you get both then in a few months or so maybe you can get a new motherboard. Just make sure it fits your i3 and then you don't need to worry about it. Your PSU will cope well with it. I would recommend getting a PSU at around the 700 + Watt mark. Gives you a good amount of future-proofing in case you want to upgrade other parts later on.
I would recommend this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... ubcat=1084
Or something similar. It does cost a little more and you can get cheaper but I've found Corsair to be very reliable and well, I like a clean PC so having the modular PSU version helps with that. They also give you PLENTY of extra wires.
After upgrading the GPU and PSU I think the motherboard and possibly CPU ( if you're wanting to splash the cash ) should be the next thing to upgrade. Apart from that you've a nice rig
Good Luck!

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3
ok, regarding your advise ive found some interesting stuff.
*looked up the psu from crosair and i could find another one less expensive:
XFX PRO 850W Core edition for 99,90euro
*this combined with a GPU from EVGA Geforce GTX550Ti from 132,90 euro...
Can i fit this 2 in my pc? and would it work fine? if this works then im settled for 232euros...

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3
craps seriously buy a better graphics card. The performance of the gtx 550 is somewhere between a 450 and a 460, if you want to compare with the charts in my earlier post. (don't compare frame rates from below with above, just the relative position of the 550 with the other cards)

Here's *total* power consumption info including these cards, so if budget was a total squeeze the absolute best performance for least money would be squeeze in a better card and keep the existing PSU (but that will be tight and constrain your choice of card). You could upgrade the PSU for a lot less cash (e.g. to 450 watts) and put in a decent graphics card
