So...a bit of a nab question here but looking for other experiences of rate problems while playing CS:S.
Basically, monday I was playing on an Ari$en server and it was fine. Spent overall about 4 to 5 hours on it, jumping between Dust2 and Office and went from having a top score of 40 and leading the board to totally getting pwned in the next map and lagging behind with scores like 19-19 etc. It was basically a well rounded experience - sometimes I seemed to be on the ball and sometimes not. Nothing unusual really as most of you know my skill fluctuates wildly =P
Went back last night and after getting two kills in my first round of Dust2 and nearly winning the day for the T's as last player standing (to which someone called me a cheater Oo/) the last CT left basically headshot me within a couple of seconds from the bomb site into the pit at Long A, defused and won the round.
Next round, trying to fight my way into B, this same player took some hits from the guy beside me, I lobbed my HE nade into B, caught him in the chops and killed him as someone killed me.
"WTF" he says
"Fix your rates!"
You have been kicked by Admin.
What the hell ... the same guy who headshot me within 2 seconds from one end of long A to the other died from my nade in the next round while shooting someone else entirely and kicks me?? That doesn't make sense...
So I go back on...pissed off and ask him if he actually checked my rates before he kicked me?!
"Yes...and you need to change them!"
"To what?" I asked. "They were fine yesterday and I have NEVER EVER in 6 or more years of playing this game been told to fix my rates. You certainly didn't have a problem with my rates last round did you? I'm not trying to be cheeky, I'm being serious."
"lol..fix them or I ban you!"
"Ahhhh fuckin ban me then ya prick lol"
Ok...so I kinda lost it at the end. Something I don't normally do. But the idea that he's fine with my rates when he shoots straight and scores but not when he's shooting crap really annoyed me.
So I guess...the question is. Is it possible that suddenly my rates are wrong? Aren't they set automatically by most servers and you actually have to manually change them to make them different. Aren't most servers the same? This is a UK based one.
How do I change them or check what they should be?
Sorry for bein a nab...but honestly, never in my life have I seriously been asked to sort my rates...
meh...come back guys....I'm tired of going on to strange servers =(

Re: Rate Updating
errrrm... i remember when playing matches we had to change our rates to get the most out of it
there were always 3 things to change by typing something like the below into console (i think these were the values that we used) :-
"rate 25000" - sets the amount of data that can be in a single packet
"cl_cmdrate 100" - sets how frequently your keyboard and mouse inputs are sent to the server
"cl_updaterate 100" - sets how frequently the server sends the locations and actions of other players to you
here's a link that explains it in a bit more detail :- http://www.overclock.net/overclock-net- ... s-css.html

Re: Rate Updating
Cheers Vinda. That looks familiar actually, but the more I thought about it the more I suspect it was a butthurt admin who just likes to annoy people off their server, particularly people who can kill them. At the very least he could've been helpful instead of just telling me to just "sort it" or I was banned after kicking me without warning. Plenty of servers out there so i can do without them. I don't usually react like that, far too nice a guy, but he really stood on me toes.
Thanks for the info though, useful to know! Am I right in assuming that you have to manually change your rates though, they cannot be set by a server as you enter?

Re: Rate Updating
i only knows that the server can set maximum values for the rate settings. so if you change our updaterate and cmdrate to 101 the server set it to 100 or 66 for the right ticks.
Re: Rate Updating
Ahh so in essence they're restricted by the servermax but not actually changed therefore if you then go into another server with a higher max your normal rate will kick in again?
Makes sense if so. Guy was definitely likely talking out of his ass then as my rates are certainly not poor or manually altered in anyway snice playing on our own server.
