Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS
Minor teething problems (Duff Sata Cable ) but...... Windows 7 is the dogs bollocks!
Everything is X10 faster than XP (2GB file from Sata HD at Sata HD - about 10 Seconds)
Much more pleasing on the eye
Everything just seems so much nicer and smoother. Also, installed alot quicker than XP does - Major step up for me from XP.
Well worth it

My W7 Pro has arrived today. 2 discs, one for 32bit, and one for 64bit. I will install in the next few days and give first impressions.

First post from Win7 enviroment. So far, I have liked what I have seen. A bit glitzy, but I think I may be converted.
I Dual boot with my old XP 32bit and a Win7 64 bit. Works really well.

Real diff with XP ? shorter start, less RAM needed to run windows, nice visualisation of the thing... Is it true ? or the difference is not that big ?

Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS
It seems that it boots slower than Vista and that's saying something. Check out this article:

Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS
Boot time seems fast with my install. Remember I have a direct comparison, as I am still running XP as a dual boot option.
I have fallen for this. I am the biggest sceptic out there. I am the typical doubter and MS hater. This OS is genuinely good. Don't get me wrong, it has it's faults, but then so did XP Pro that I have loved so dearly. Shipping with no e-mail client was silly, but I am using Mozilla Thunderbird anyway, so it didn't affect me.
Visual are very nice, and everything has a smoother and more polished feel. Easy install and upgrade. I never would of given Vista a second on my system. Win 7 is here to stay.

Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS
I honestly dont look at the reviews. Trust the people that run the system day in and day out...
I have all three o/s and windows server... and i would say it boots the quickest. Espically from sleep on my laptop. I can be in within about 4 seconds from hitting the button (without password)
im justing testing the new .net 4 framework as well now... so ill report on how it all goes...
Just remember, win7 is pretty much the same as vista under the hood... its mainly an "asthetics" release

Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS
A few reasons Vista haters will love Windows 7.. The changes made are extremely important. It's like saying an Audi A4 is the same as an Octavia. They both have a similar layout and share a platform, but I can tell you from experience, the A4 is far more desirable. This example doesn't do the differences justice between Win7 and Vista. The poor Octavia is quite a good car, where vista was just plain rushed out and badly planned. It really is (Win7) a polished Operating system. OMG I am promoting a Microsoft product. The world is coming to an end!

4: Clutter and bloat are reduced
5: Boot performance is better
6: Notifications can be fine-tuned

8: Side-by-side windows auto-size
9: Home networking gets simple
10: Taskbar preview really works

Ok guys, a quick link for anyone newly installing the x64 version. The Win7 media player is useless without a decent codec suite!
Here it is:- http://www.codecguide.com/klcp_64bit.htm
enjoy.

Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS
Other than a few random errors in the first few weeks of Vista I never really had a problem with it, but the much talked about performance increase made me decide to give Windows 7 a try. So on Monday I changed from Vista Home Premium x64 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
First off the install was really fast. I did a clean install which took between 20-25 mins (fastest OS install I've ever had).
However, I used Windows Easy Transfer which took 1 hour each way but was certainly easier than doing it manually and brought across some saved games and program settings files, which I didn't expect, so everything was how I wanted it when I reinstalled them.
The UAC was getting a little annoying while I was reinstalling all my programs but I think it must have tired itself out as I've not seen anything of it since...
Performance does seem to have improved. Start up, shut down and opening programs are all quicker and general navigation just somehow feels...nicer. This may just be due to the clean install but we'll see.
I think the interface improvements will probably be where Windows 7 really shines once more programs are updated to take advantage of them. Steam just updated with some new features today such as a progress bar on the taskbar icon when your downloading a game. It might not seem like much but lots of little things like this go a long way to improving ease of use.
But the best thing; I haven't had a single error. Not even a little one.
I still need to try some graphics work and some resourse heavy games but, so far, I wouldn't have a problem recommending this to anyone.
I'll be updating an XP machine soon, hopefully that will go just as smoothly

Will win7 be the death of ie6? lets hope so

Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS
well they taken the moolah outta ma account, so presumably my win7 cd is on its way, nice 'free' update lol 18 quid for postage! bah conned me!! false advertising with this laptop!
looking forward to it, the small time i spend on the RC2 with my desktop, i found w7 to be great, it just didnt support any of my gfx drivers. So presumable MSI offering the free upgrade when you buy the laptop surely means it should all be compatible. ill probably have a look for drivers before i do the install.
also is it a totally fresh install of the OS? it didnt make it clear on the order really, so presumably a backup to HDD is in order?
just realised royal fucking useless mail are on strike arent they? fucking useless twats thinking there more important than they really are... bah.. so probably wont get my copy till next week sometime..
and to think i was going to order all 15 series of ER tommorrow, payday and all with next day delivery...
fuck you royal mail
