This.

if only the RC1 had options for older drivers, which i assume the final release will then it would be a great operating system.

Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS

As far as development go, I have had no problems. For example:

I have installed the full visual studio 2008 + sp1, SQL Enterprise 2008, and all the available web updates. And win7 responds quicker than Mr. Bolt (100/200m world record holder btw). I haven't had a blue screen at all. Only slight trouble i had was installing my ati drivers, which win7 found a solution for :) (was actually a vs08 problem).

Overall, very happy :)

Will update in a week or so as ill be doing tons of dev this week.

POSTS DELETED = Keep it relevant gentlemen. This thread is a resource! My original post here after deletions. Then followed immediately by another daft post, hence my response below.

Oh FFS - I am about to go through and delete posts throughout this whole forum thanks to comments like this post from Reddragon, which I just deleted.
I still haven't worked out was wrong with Vista, I've run it since it came out with no issues.....
SO WHY POST THAT INFO IN HERE??? IS THAT A PRO OR CON OF WINDOWS 7??? NO! ANYMORE SPAM AND YOU ARE ON A WARNING (Do not defend or reply within this thread. I'm itching to ban one of the spam monkeys in here  )

Ok.... now for the second time, only relevany posts please!

Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS

lolz gav feel free to delete any of my posts... I'l be going to go Windows 7 anyway, having skipped vista, but I'd still be interested to learn if Windows 7 makes a substantive improvement in the general areas of weakness of XP or Vista, e.g. robustness/rollback from attacks, remote access, boot time.

Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS

I'm still unsure about Windows 7. I do see a few advantages to XP, but few I would truly make use of. It's still a bit resource hungry although less than Vista.

I look at articles and reviews like these, and think again about taking the plunge :- http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/win ... /page3.asp

As I use my rig for gaming primarily these days, i just don't see any great advantage as yet, and in some cases, a performance drop. :?

It's not an obvious upgrade 'yet' for me, but ofcourse this is still a Beta, and perhaps will mature.

Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS

Well thought id update since i havent been in about a month:

been flat out testing the heck out of it recently and only had one blue screen (I somehow made IIS7 & SQL08 crash at the same time... :/) apart from that, good as gold...

Well worth the upgrade imho... plus the slideshow background is plain awesome :D

Re: WINDOWS 7 PROS & CONS

Having just built my new media pc with the 64bit version of Windows 7 I'm really impressed with it so far. Will be installing steam and other games over the next couple of days and then I'll give it a go and let you know my thoughts. Windows 7 Media Centre is superb, I know that much already :D

Edit - As far as upgrading, officially you can do an upgrade as long as you are going from 32bit to 32bit or 64bit to 64bit. Unofficially you can do 32bit to 64bit but the the installer will complain about it when you try but I believe there is a guide somewhere on t'internet.

Had xp/vista dual boot. I fresh installed a copy so i got rid of both. So in answer to your question kinda both. Lol!

I think the only reason the graphics performance isnt as good is b/c the driver support for the high end cards are pretty god dam rubbish!!! im sure we could build better drivers :D

So.. let me get this right...

EU gets LESS software, for more cash ?
That's outright THEFT.
Many of the big software companies have been doing it for years. Adobe products have always been twice as expensive in UK than US
