Web selling

My uncle is looking to start selling his large collection of artwork. He's asked me to design a website for him, i'm fine with that bit of it, but he wants to be able to add items and remove items easily. Basically using one field he can upload an image with, another he can write a description of the item, and a third where he can put the price.

Any info, help or guidance would be much appreciated :)

Re: Web selling

If you have Cpanel, with your hosting.. (Fuzioned's do, the hosts OFC have) you might already have some at your fingertips.

There within a application called "fantastico".

In there are about thirty differnet free web applications, for just for this kind of thing, inc a shopping cart styles, gallery wizard websites, database forms, standard html or php websites and also some which also use a database. They are all "wizard" based and you can view before installing and there all easy to install with very little work. These might be a simple solution....?

Ive done something simular and setup a paypal icon by upgrading the paypal account in "Merchant Tools" to permit encripted buttons to be put on the standard website to make the purchase. All was very easy to do.

Re: Web selling

Now, it depends whether you want to sell (process payments) online or only use it as a showroom and selling will be done offline.

E-commerce apps:
www.magentocommerce.com (full blown e-commerce, most likely and overkill for your kind of app)
www.oscommerce.com (same as above, perhaps less advanced, less sexy looking)
www.zencart.com
checkout.google.com (deady easy, needs either Ltd. or verification of a seller via card)

CMS - no processing of payments online:
drupal.org (CMS/framework)
wordpress.com (blog/CMS)

Judging by your description, I'd say WordPress. It's not the most brilliant code written but it does the job nicely and is widely supported by various plugins and themes. You'd need PHP and MySQL hosting for that.

Contact me directly if I can be of any assistance ;)

Re: Web selling

All of those 3 are free ( plus about 30 others or so other applications ) in Fantastico, within cpanel.

Re: Web selling

Fantastic, thanks guys. It's offline selling, with an online showroom so i'll investigate further into wordpress. And as i'll be using Fuzioned it should work.
Cheers :D

With British banks having "balanced sheets" one wonders whether it's wise to process your money through them. You better exchange uncle's artwork for rice, potatoes and/or gold :)
